BLS for Healthcare Providers
The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is approximately 4 hours for the Initial course and approximately 3 hours for the Renewal course and may be shorter depending on the number of students in each class. We offer one to one instruction as well. This course is for EMS personnel, physician assistants, nurses, doctors and others in the healthcare industry. Your American Heart Association card is good for two years. Prior to the completion of the class you will take a 20 question multiple choice test and skills exam. There is a book which is not included called BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Describe the links in the AHA Chain of Survival
- Describe the steps of CPR
- Perform 1 & 2 person rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants
- Give mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-barrier device and use of a bag-valve-mask
- Relieve a foreign body airway obstruction in a responsive or unresponsive victim of any age
- Know how and when to activate the Emergency Response System
- Know how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Recognize the 5 major emergencies in adults
