The Heartsaver First Aid course without CPR is approximately 3 hours and may be shorter depending on the number of students in each class. We offer one to one instruction as well. This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to respond to adult illnesses and emergencies like medical emergencies and injury emergencies. Other topics available to learn are environmental emergencies, CPR and AED. This course is for anyone who wants to learn First Aid, personal trainers, daycare providers or people who are required to have this certification for work. Your American Heart Association card is good for two years. Prior to the completion of the class there is a skills exam. There is a book which is not included called Heartsaver First Aid Student Workbook or Heartsaver First Aid With CPR and AED Student Workbook.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Administer first aid to yourself and others
- Identify and administer first aid for bleeding, broken bones, burns, seizures, heat stroke, hypothermia, and frostbite
- Recognize life threatening emergencies
- Manage medical and injury emergencies
- Relieve a foreign body airway obstruction in a responsive or unresponsive adult
- Know how and when to activate the Emergency Response System

We’re excited to introduce the updated 2025 American Heart Association guidelines in our upcoming courses. The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is designed for medical professionals, including EMS personnel, physician assistants, nurses, doctors, technicians, and other healthcare providers. The initial course is approximately 4 hours and is intended for individuals who do not currently hold a BLS for Healthcare Providers certification. The renewal course is approximately 3 hours and is designed for those renewing their certification prior to the expiration date on their current eCard. Course length may vary depending on class size. We also offer one-on-one instruction at no additional cost. Each participant will complete a 25-question multiple-choice exam and a hands-on skills evaluation prior to course completion. Upon successful completion of both components, you will receive your new BLS for Healthcare Providers certification card the same day, there is no waiting period. Certification is valid for two years. Please note: The BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual is not included in the course fee.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Describe the links in the 2025 AHA Chain of Survival
- Describe the steps of CPR
- Perform 1 & 2 person rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants
- Give mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-barrier device and use of a bag-valve-mask

- Know how and when to activate the Emergency Response System

BLS Skills Check

The BLS for Healthcare Providers skills check is approximately a half hour. The skills check is designed for EMS personnel, physicians, physician assistants, nurses, doctors and others in the healthcare industry. You must hold a current BLS certification in order to take the online BLS test through the American Heart Association's website. Once you successfully complete the online BLS test, you need to print the certificate of completion to prove you passed the online exam and bring this document with you to your skills test session. Thereafter you may enroll in the practical skills test portion. We will issue your BLS for Healthcare Providers card which is valid for two years.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:

The prerequisites for this class is a current BLS card,(non-expired) ACLS Provider card and working knowledge of cardiac rhythms and ACLS pharmacology. This is a one day class (approximately 5 hours). One-to-one instruction is available. Although the ACLS manual is not required, it is strongly recommended that the student purchase it before attending the class. ACLS Prep Course

We offer an ACLS prep course specifically tailored to your needs. This course will not count toward your ACLS certification nor CEU credits. This class is optional and will help prepare you for the initial ACLS class or ACLS renewal course. We will cover various cardiac rhythms and ACLS pharmacology. The course is tailored to your specific needs therefore the duration depends on you. You can meet for one session or several sessions until you feel comfortable. One-to-one instruction is available for this course at no additional cost. The ACLS manual is strongly recommended and should be purchased prior to the student attending the class. The book is titled Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider Manual, AHA, 2025. The cost for this class is $40.00 per hour *Home instruction is also available for the Stafford, VA area
Pediatric First Aid

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course without CPR is approximately 3 hours and may be shorter depending on the number of students in each class. We offer one-to-one instruction as well. This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to respond to child illnesses and emergencies like medical emergencies and injury emergencies. Optional topics available to learn are asthma care training for child care providers, eye injuries, fever, bites and suspected abuse. This course is for anyone who wants to learn Pediatric First Aid like parents, nannies, daycare providers or people who are required to have this certification for work. Your American Heart Association card is good for two years. Your skills are evaluated as you practice during the course with the instructor. There is a book not included in the cost of the class called Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Student Workbook.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Learn how to prevent injuries with children
- How to interact with children of all agesn
- Identify and administer first aid for bleeding, drowning, diabetic emergencies, broken bones, poison emergencies, mouth and tooth injuries, burns, seizures, heat stroke, hypothermia, and frostbite

PALS for Healthcare Providers

PALS Provider is a two day course intended for health care providers. One-on-one instruction is available at no additional cost. The prerequisite for this course is a current (non-expired) BLS card. PALS Provider is recommended for Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses and other health care professionals who provide care to infants and children in a health care setting. The PALS Provider Student Manual is highly recommended prior to attending the class. The student manual is not included in the cost of the class.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Learn and perform early interventions, resuscitation, and stabilization techniques for the pediatric patient experiencing respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest
- Learn how to participate effectively during an actual event through PALS megacode/scenarios practice
- Recognition and treatment of respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients
- Practice resuscitation skills for pediatric patients
- Know the medication and equipment treatments necessary for different situations of Ventricular Fibrillation, Tachycardia, Bradycardia, respiratory arrest and other special medical conditions
